Drill instructor duties 1stRB

Drill Instructors supervise and instruct or assist in commanding and instructing a recruit platoon.

[size=14pt]Requirements/Prerequisites[/size]

(1) Must hold the rank of Cpl.

(2) Must have scored 100% on DI Exam, must have no misconduct, disciplinary related incidents, court-martials, or non-judicial punishments within the last 6 months.

(3) Must be an opening.

[size=14pt]Duties[/size]

    (1) 1st. Sgt. to Cpl.:

      (a) Conducts recruit training for newly enlisted personnel following the recruit training agenda, schedules, and orders.

      (b) Instructs and assists in training basic combat tasks to recruits.

      (c) Trains recruits in the fundamentals of realism and the development in the recruit of discipline, pride, respect, maturity, and love of the unit.

      (d) Trains recruits in close order drill.

      (e) Instructs in nomenclature and functioning of service rifle and assists in marksmanship instruction.

      (f) Instructs unit rules and policy set forth by the Command Staff.

      (g) Lectures on unit history, tradition, customs, and military courtesy.

      (h) Assists in conduct of all training programs.

      (i) Maintains records and prepares reports.


[size=14pt]Positions[/size]

    (1) Senior Drill Instructor: (Senior Hat)
    • ultimately accountable for the training of the recruit platoon and for the efficiency of his assistant Drill Instructors.
    • responsible for submitting a graduation report for every training platoon
    • responsible for submitting a staff report for every training platoon


    (2) Drill Instructor: (Drill Hat)
    • responsible for the conduction of training. Bears the day-to-day burden to make sure recruits are learning what they need to.
    • conducts all formal training business with recruits


    (3) Junior Instructor: (Kill Hat)
    • job consists of constant corrections, dispensing punitive training, and keeping unremitting pressure on recruits to pay attention to details.
    • also teaches and reinforces academic knowledge to recruits.
    • always keeping the recruits in line, keeping discipline while not engaged in active training.
